Resumen

ROMERO, Guillermo. Disputed Meanings in the “Transversality” of Integrated Sex Education in Argentina. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.88, pp.47-68.  Epub 24-Mar-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

Based on an ethnographic study carried out in two secondary schools in Argentina, this article analyzes the disputed meanings of the notion of the “transversality” of integrated sex education, an educational policy that challenges and defies traditional pedagogical focuses, especially with regard to sexuality. The article describes and analyzes two types of transversality that are present in the schools under study: curricular and institutional. At the same time, it highlights the importance of addressing the cultural configurations of each institution where the pedagogical practices are developed. In this manner, without assuming the complete determination of school experiences, the findings show how two different institutional configurations -referred to as normative and participative-favor or obstruct certain focuses.
