Resumen

LABRANA, Julio; OGNIO, Katherine  y  SION, Rodrigo. The Knowledge Economy and Doctoral Education in the Social Sciences: A Reflection from Chile. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.91, pp.1217-1244.  Epub 13-Dic-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article explores, from the experience of the Chilean case, how the holders of doctoral degrees in general and in the social sciences in particular face challenges in terms of employability. First, we introduce a conceptual discussion on the insertion of the holders of doctoral degrees into the labor market, highlighting the mismatch that exists between the political and economic systems. Next, we describe changes in the public policies of science and innovation, and examine the increase in the numbers of holders of doctoral degrees. The third section interprets these developments, as it argues the need to achieve greater relevance in doctoral education in the social sciences for productive sectors; it also discusses the obstacles that the discourse of the knowledge economy poses in this regard. To conclude, the article offers future lines of analysis.
