Resumen

GAYET, Cecilia; PARTIDA-BUSH, Virgilio  y  DAVILA-CERVANTES, Claudio Alberto. Mortality due to HIV/AIDS in México: A demographic contribution. Pap. poblac [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.79, pp.9-38. ISSN 2448-7147.

The objective of this paper is to estimate the trends of the AIDS mortality by sex in Mexico by using demographic methods between 1998 and 2011, at National and State levels. For men, there was a stable mortality during the stage of introduction of the highly active antiretroviral therapy and a reduction during 2004/2011; for women, an increasing trend in the period 1998/2007 was observed and a slight reduction since 2008. The effect of HIV/AIDS in life expectancy in men was a decrease before the universal coverage of treatments and an increase from 2004. Life expectancy considering HIV/AIDS showed differences at the state level. Tabasco State has had fewer contributions from treatments. The results based on mortality analysis should be considered approximations and not necessarily convenient for health policy evaluation.

Palabras llave : Mortality HIV AIDS; México; life expectancy.
