Resumen

MADRIGAL-MONARREZ, I. et al. Retención de plaguicidas en zonas amortiguadoras: Caso del isoproturon. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.1, pp.35-43. ISSN 2594-0732.

The installation of buffer zones is one of the solutions proposed to combat surface water contamination by pesticides. Existing studies show that these zones can limit the transfer of agrochemicals to water bodies. However, very little in formation exists about what happens to the intercepted products. Their evolution is related to the physiochemical and biological functioning of these buffer zones. This study examined the retention of a herbicide, isoproturon, in soils from grassed buffer strips, forest area and cropped soil from the ARVALIS experimental site in La Jaillière, France. The experiments were carried out under controlled laboratory conditions using isoproturon marked with 14C in the benzene ring. The results show that the retention of the isoproturon was greater in the soils from the buffer zones than in the soils from the cropped soil, particularly in surface horizons, which have a higher content in organic matter. In addition, the desorption of the molecule is more difficult in the surface horizons of the buffer zones than in the worked layer of the cropped soil. These findings confirm the potential value of buffer zones in protecting surface water from agricultural contaminants.
