This paper presents a case study to apply the concepts of numerical integration which is a useful concept in the engineering basic sciences. The storage volume in a reservoir was obtained using Newton´s numerical integration schemes (Trapezoidal rule, Simpson 1/3 and Simpson 3/8) from data of flood routing by the dam “Las Cruces”, an hydroelectric project of the Federal Electricity Committee where it was considered as input the design hydrograph for the spillway. The results of the calculated volumes were compared with those who reported the program that performs the flood routing, giving conservative results with Newton´s integration methods regarding integration through rectangles that performs the flood routing program of the Federal Electricity Committee.
