The current footbridges are increasingly slender and flexible structures, which makes them more prone to human-induced vertical vibrations. In Mexico, there are no design regulations for the revision of the serviceability limit state of this type of structures, which causes many pedestrians to stop using them to cross roads. This paper studies three footbridges existing in Mexico, which are modeled by continuous Euler-Bernoulli beams subjected to moving vertical pedestrian loads. It is observed that these bridges do not comply with the serviceability limit states established in international standards, for which reason a vertical vibration control system based on tuned mass dampers (TMD) is designed for each one of them.
