Resumen
ROMERO FRIZZI, María de los Ángeles. History is one. Desacatos [online]. 2001, n.7, pp.49-64. ISSN 2448-5144.
Departing from apologetic and conceptual reflections about the nature of historical research by Bloch and Febvre, this essay describes the contemporary scope of ethnohistory as an independent intellectual and academic undertaking. The author argues that the objectives and methodology of ethnohistory may be defined in a pragmatic rather than in an aprioristic manner, by resorting to the examination of research trends and methods in the ethnohistory of Mesoamerica. This essay also argues that the conceptual and epistemological concerns that define ethnohistory as a discipline in Mesoamerica are intimately linked with a key intellectual concern: the recovery and interpretation of alphabetic and pictographic texts produced by indigenous authors during the colonial period.
