Resumen
AGUILAR ROS, Alejandra. Body, Memory and Experience: The Pilgrimage to Talpa from San Agustín, Jalisco. Desacatos [online]. 2009, n.30, pp.29-42. ISSN 2448-5144.
There are several positions within social theory on how to study the body, one of them -the theory of embodiment- claims that the body is the center of all existential activity, the subject of perception and, in turn, the source of practices that affect social structures. This paper explores the bodily techniques used in a pilgrimage from San Agustín to Talpa, in southern Jalisco, in order to find the themes that the pilgrims articulate in their voyage. Some of these cultural themes are: the group’s permanence and constitution, the memories inscribed in the body, and the relationship with supernatural beings. All of them make up the pilgrim’s experience of sacredness.
