ZAMUDIO SANCHEZ, Francisco J.; CORONA AMBRIZ, Alejandro y LOPEZ BECERRIL, Iraís Damaris. Un índice de ruralidad para México. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.42, pp.179-214. ISSN 1665-0565.
One of the visible characteristics of Mexico's rural spaces is that they are not uniform spaces, not from the economic or social points of view. It was our purpose to build, in an objective manner, an index that would measure the degree of rurality of the states and municipalities, making use of a varied analysis of the main components. The variables that were chosen are some of the characteristics that differentiate the rural from the urban environment. The relations between the rurality index and the human development index were analyzed, with the margination index and the inegi concept of rurality; in all the cases the hypotheses about their relations were confirmed.
Palabras llave : human development; marginalization; rural population and principal component analysis.
