Resumen

GARCIA JURADO, Roberto. Machiavelli’s theory of war. Sig. Fil [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.33, pp.28-51. ISSN 1665-1324.

This article analyzes Machiavelli’s theory of war, that is to say, his general conception of belligerent activity. Thus, this article offers answers to questions like: What does war mean for Machiavelli? Which are its basic rules and principles? What is its origin? What is its purpose? It also shows how Machiavelli was influenced not only by militaries institutions of ancient Rome, but he was even more influenced by the logic of the state and by the model of interaction between the states of that age. This led him to defend an imperialist strategy like that of ancient Rome, which was, however, unfeasible in the modern world.

Palabras llave : Renaissance; arms; state; conquest; soldiers.
