Epub 23-Oct-2020. ISSN 1665-3521.
The preparation by the sol-gel method of TiO2 modified with different amounts of Sn (TiO2-Sn(x)), with molar ratios x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, y 0.5 is reported. The obtained results show that the method of synthesis favors the formation of anatase phase of TiO2 and that the Tin incorporation in molar ratios greater than 0.3 promotes the formation of the rutile phase. The proportion of crystalline phases in each formulation varies depending on the contents of tin incorporated. Photocatalytic performance of the catalysts was evaluated in the degradation of some non-steroidal anti-inflammatories drugs (NSAIDs) present in wastewaters from the pharmaceutical industry. Results shown that the photocatalysts containing tin, under sunlight irradiation, show an increase in their photocatalytic activity in comparison with the TiO2 used as reference. In the case of irradiation with ultraviolet light for the degradation of the naproxen and ibuprofen drugs, a selective behavior based on the content of Tin was observed.
