Resumen

LOPEZ CABRERA, Jesús Antonio; GABRIEL VILLARREAL, Francisco  y  CARDOSO LOPEZ, Diego. A Measurement Proposal of Financial Inclusion in Mexico. Rev. mex. econ. finanz [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.3, e889.  Epub 13-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2448-6795.  https://doi.org/10.21919/remef.v18i3.889.

This research computes Mexico´s financial inclusion index, using a principal component analysis methodology. Dimensions included in the index are access, use and quality. The data comes from the National Survey of Financial Inclusion. The results of the index show us that there is a low level of financial inclusion. It also indicates that the dimension that contributes the most to financial inclusion is access, while the one that contributes the least is quality. There is a greater financial inclusion of men than of women, as well as in Mexico City, the Northeast and Northwest, in towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants, and workers. This tells us that diversification boosts levels of financial inclusion, but it is necessary to encourage use, strengthen capacities, and improve design. There is a lag in the information of innovative financial products and services, which limits the study.
