Objective:

To determine if the variables Work Shift, Labor Situation, Extra Hours, and Service Area, make differences in the levels of Burnout among nursing personnel working in the Mother and Child Hospital of the city of Durango, Mexico.

Method:

This is a correlational, transversal, and not-experimental study which uses the Maslach Burnout Inventory‐General Survey to estimate the level of Burnout of 204 nurses working in the Mother and Child Hospital of the City of Durango, Mexico.

Results:

From the four studied variables, Work Shift induced significant differences on the levels of reported Burnout.

Conclusions:

Conditions such as Shift and Position can trigger stressful situations which in the long term can make the nursing personnel develop the Burnout syndrome which profoundly affects their professional performance.
