MANSILLA, Miguel Ángel y ORELLANA URTUBIA, Luis. Forgetting the Classics. Theories on Pentecostalism in Latin America. Latinoamérica [online]. 2022, n.74, pp.11-42. Epub 09-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6914. https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2022.74.57376.
The objective of this article is to review the main theories of the social sciences applied to Latin American Pentecostalism, selecting the most recognized authors from Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. In general terms, the theories applied to Latin American Pentecostalism can be synthesized in five assumptions: popular religion; communication theory; social movement; dramaturgy and emotions. Methodologically, we selected the articles and books produced on the theoretical approaches related to Latin American Pentecostalism during the period 1967-2017, that is, 50 years of research. For the classification and analysis of information, we use content analysis as a technique, focusing specifically on published articles and books, leaving aside conference theses and monographs.
