Resumen

LOZA TORRES, Mariela; VIZCARRA BORDI, Ivonne; LUTZ BACHERE, Bruno  y  QUINTANAR GUADARRAMA, Eduardo. Jefaturas de hogar: El desafío femenino ante la migración transnacional masculina en el sur del Estado de México. Migr. Inter [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.2, pp.33-60. ISSN 2594-0279.

The study of Mexican migration to the United States of America is a key issue in feminist research. This study analyzes changes in social relationships and gender as a result of the migration of heads of household. It is assumed that in the event of their husband's longterm absence, the women are sent funds and take charge of social reproduction strategies in their households. This study was carried out in three communities in the southern part of the Estado de México. A survey was undertaken in the households of male migrants and indepth interviews were conducted with migrants' wives. The authors conclude that women's autonomy and their role as head of the household are more closely linked to the absence of their husbands and the origin of the money than to the control of remittances.
