AGUILAR ROMAN, Carolina. Detention centers: racism and migrant struggle in the United States. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.45, pp.121-146.  Epub 27-Sep-2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i45.813.

The United States of America has the highest number of detained immigrants in the world. This article argues that detention centers are racist institutions. Hence an analytical framework was used to integrated studies of mass incarceration and migrant struggles; therefore, it was created a model. Which identifies four factors that make racism possible at immigrant detention centers: 1) mass incarceration system; 2) criminalization of immigrants; 3) racialization; and 4) gender. The analysis is completed with the conclusion of migrant struggle, which challenge, reject and resist racism. Sometimes they defeat it, that is the case of the civil disobedience strategies of infiltrating detention centers.
