Resumen
TAVERA VILLEGAS, Hugo. A tale of two cities, and an animal sanctuary: multispecies futures in the Anthropocene. Andamios [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.51, pp.223-251. Epub 29-Sep-2023. ISSN 2594-1917. https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v20i51.975.
In this essay, I offer a description of the way in which the future is imagined within animal rights literature, specifically by authors who are located within the so-called political turn in animal ethics. In the Anthropocene, a term that designates our geological era, characterized by the influence of the human species on the Earth System, the future seems to have been eclipsed, so much so that it is only conceivable for many as catastrophe. Through the exposition of different multispecies political imaginaries, concretized in the theoretical construction of zoodemocracies of the future, here I give an account of an emerging literature about political utopias characterized by the criticism of human exceptionalism.
