Resumen

TELLEZ-LOPEZ, Miguel A. et al. Evaluation of the effect of Opuntia ficus-indica methanol extract partitions on sperm quality and testicular function in male Wistar rats. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2014, vol.45, n.3, pp.65-73. ISSN 1870-0195.

Testicular and sperm quality in Wistar rats treated with Opuntia ficus-indica methanol extract and its chloroformic, hexanic and cloroformic insoluble partition were evaluated. The rats were divided into 3 groups: negative, positive and treated control. Testosterone levels in the treated group with soluble in chloroform partition showed significant decrease compared to the negative control group. Sperm variables of the treated groups were significantly decreased compared to controls. The testicular morphology showed alterations in the treated groups, accentuating morphology alterations in soluble in chloroform. The comet assay showed single strand breaks in DNA in the treated groups, showing increased migration in soluble in chloroform and hexane extracts. Soluble in chloroform partition decreases sperm and testicular quality in rat affecting its structure.
