Resumen

TAPIA LANDEROS, Alberto. Algunos geosímbolos de Baja California. Identidad y memoria colectiva de la ruralidad. Culturales [online]. 2009, vol.5, n.10, pp.139-176. ISSN 2448-539X.

This document presents a description of some places of Baja California that have been historically named by native people and colonizers. These places have been used asa guide for travelers, known by their importance for containing water, remembered because a relevant event took place there, named after religious beliefs, recognized in indigenous ceremonies or a given political context and, in general, of importance because of any other event added it with a symbolic meaning. The knowledge of these sites was obtained through a research of documents written along half a century and also through methods of oral registry visiting rural places and talking with indigenous inhabitants and rural people. Anthropology, History, Geography and Biology frameworks of reference, among others disciplines, have been used in this research. The description of geosymbols is analyzed according with the so called "reasons" of Joel Bonnemaison, from where the definition of "geosymbol" was taken; also, the idea "to name is to know, is create", of Guillermo Bonfil is used here. Finally, the work shows all sites quoted in the document in a map of Baja California, located by coordinates. A discussion about its localization is also offered.

Palabras llave : Baja California; geosymbol; symbolic representation; identity; collective memory.
