Resumen
VAZQUEZ, Cecilia. Entre el arte y la política: La representación de la figura de la cautiva en la obra de Daniel Santoro. Culturales [online]. 2013, vol.1, n.2, pp.171-198. ISSN 2448-539X.
This paper proposes an approach that investigates comparatively a series of pictorial images produced in different sociopolitical contexts depicting founding scenes of the Argentinean nationality. It discusses in particular the case of the figure of the white captive represented in works, among others, such as The return of the Malón by Angel Della Valle, painted in1892. This work is observed throughout the various transpositions which recorded that figure, such as the contemporary reinterpretation that the painter Daniel Santoro made in works like Victoria Captive, and Malón and spatial concept (both painted in 2009), or Victoria Ocampo watching the return of the raid (2011). The main objective is to discuss from the perspective of cultural and visual studies and sociology of culture, issues that are evident in the representation of the cultural "other". Among them, the specific modalities of nominating and making visible that art allow in respect to subordinate subjects and the place of art within the games of disputes by the hegemony of certain meanings around these founding scenes of Argentina. The focus is set in the recent establishment of state cultural policies that configures a dispute among the senses of the past.
