Resumen

IBARRA RIVAS, Luis Rodolfo. Hegemony: Simurg, intellectuals, culture, and education. Culturales [online]. 2015, vol.3, n.1, pp.9-47. ISSN 2448-539X.

This essay periodizes Mexican culture in several tendencies: Frenchification, nationalism, modernization-Americanization, system fall and future-Simurg. It illustrates the historical circumstances that allow the understanding of the current lack of a dominating cultural project and the lack of a moral and intellectual direction. It codifies already deceased intellectuals; while grouping them in phases and contrasting them with current intellectuals; it evidences the lack of a national cultural project different from the Televisa project. It explains the concepts that structure this paper -culture, intellectual, education, hegemony/dominance, and crisis-, and shows periods previously mentioned, as well as artists and thinkers who conformed them, like: Cantinflas, Octavio Paz, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Pablo Moncayo, and, current ones like Alfonso Cuarón, Aleks Sintek, or "Perro" Bermúdez. It invites to reconsider the importance of what currently exists: The tendency, not completely visible, of social movements that act in behalf of a desirable future: other culture created by the efforts of many. Desired by those who criticize the current crisis.

Palabras llave : Culture; intellectual; education; hegemony, and crisis.
