Resumen

GRAGEDA BUSTAMANTE, Aarón. Diversity and structure. Narrative articulation in three books of Mexican history written for 2010. Culturales [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.2, pp.163-184. ISSN 2448-539X.

The following contribution focuses on the debate on the recognition of cultural diversity in Mexico. By analyzing three national history books written for the bicentennial celebrations in 2010, it presents the readers examples of the way the Mexican past is officially narrated. The findings suggest that, contrary to what is expressed by their promoters (editors, presenters and national authorities), the narrative structure of these history books does neither emphasize plurality nor inclusion or openess to excluded groups and minorities. Instead, and contrary to the spirit of a modern global society, all three books promote, as it was common at the end of 19th century, basic moral values related to patriotism, such as national pride, racial unity and liberalism.
