ARANGO FERNANDEZ, Hernán; RUIZ RODRIGUEZ, Rafael; LOPEZ NORIEGA, Juan Carlos y JIMENEZ CASTILLO, René. Osseointegrated implants for prosthetic auricular rehabilitation. Presentation of a case. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.4, pp.201-206. ISSN 1870-199X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fo.1870199xp.2007.11.4.15801.
Auricular defects can result from tumor resection, trauma or congenital malformations. The reconstruction of auricular defects is made by autogenous and alloplastic reconstruction. Osseointegrated implants offer an alternative for the anchorage of auricular prosthesis.
Objectives
To show the efficiency of osseointegrated implants used as anchorage for auricular prosthesis.
Case report
A clinical report of a 22 years old male, with a right side microtia, who had had many failed autogenous ear reconstructions. The procedure was done in two steps.
Conclusions
Osseointegrated implants can be placed in the mastoid area of the temporal bone to achieve retention for bone anchored auricular prosthesis, restoring function, aesthetics and normal social activities.
