VARGAS APAEZ, Omar Jacob; MIRANDA VILLASANA, José Ernesto  y  BALDOMERO HERNANDEZ, Jhonston. Hemimaxillectomy in rhinocerebral mucormycosis. Case report. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.1, pp.47-52. ISSN 1870-199X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fo.1870199xp.2009.13.1.15621.

The rhinocerebral mucormycosis is a fungical, lethal and uncommon disease usually observed in diabetic or immunodeficient patients. Usually the treatment is done by controlling the underlying disease, as well as a radical debridement, usually a partial or total maxillectomy is done and in some cases is also included eth-moidectomy and orbital exenteration. As well as therapy with Amphothericin B is initiated. This case report describes a 69-year-old male patient that suffered a rhinocerebral mucormyco-sis of an atypical evolution; due to the initial phase which did not present the typical metabolic chaos and the abnormal timing of appearance of the signs. As soon as the diagnosis was confirmed, a treatment with amphotericin B was established and an hemimaxillectomy was carried out with debridement by means of Weber-Ferguson approach.
