SOLORZANO LEMUS, Fernando; VENEGAS LANCON, Rogelio Danovan; MORENO MALDONADO, Víctor  y  LOPEZ MORALES, Salvador. Residual monomer determination in three different brands of denture base resin by means of gas chromatograph. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.2, pp.91-98. ISSN 1870-199X.

Among the processing techniques of the acrylic resin for dental use in Mexico, it has not been seen the comparative determination of the residual monomer. Whereas the proper processing having the residual monomer in tolerable concentration ranks, for many patients the irritated tissue and the allergic reaction are consequences of the high levels of residual monomer that exist in alternative techniques and this can be of clinical consent. We determined the residual monomer of the heat-polymerized acrylic resin using the gas chromatography for three different registered trademark for denture base. The evaluated materials are: SR Ivocap® Plus High Impact (Ivoclar Vivadent), Palaxpress® (Heraeus Kulzer) y ProBase Hot Trial Kit® (Ivoclar Vivadent). Each specimen was processed with the norms and the specification of the manufacturer. In order to carry out this Study nine samples were processed, which were dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF) to be analyzed in the gas chromatograph. Given the results that were obtained, all the materials fulfilled the requirements that ISO 1567-1999 establishes having a lower value than 2.2% of residual monomer, among the materials tested the highest value reported was 0.203%.
