AGUIRRE SALA, Jorge Francisco. Liquid strategies to vindicate democracy. Polis [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.2, pp.133-156. Epub 10-Abr-2023. ISSN 2594-0686. https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/izt/dcsh/polis/2022v18n2/aguirre.
The liquid model is exposed and proposed to claim the quality of democracy in the face of participatory and representative deficits. With a conceptual analysis methodology, the theoretical proposal is elaborated, and empirical examples are provided. Confusions are noted between liquid and electronic democracy, as well as the risks of obtaining digital technocracy instead of technopolitics. Faced with other studies of the model, the novelty of the analysis includes links with algorithmic democracy and artificial intelligence. The conclusions show the value of the liquid model in six aspects: providing citizens with the space to make public decisions, limiting the risks of populism, generating instances of intermediation, taking advantage of digital advances, influencing structurally and temporarily in politics.
