This article presents the results of a study on the types of social mobilization by the gay and lesbian community in Monterrey, Mexico. We first describe the emergence and development of the collective action process within specific situations experienced by this community. We then analyze the gay and lesbian community demands and the strategies employed to obtain them, as well as, consider the simultaneous process by which collective action and identity are shaped.
