Objective: to identify the Tabasco women’s motivation for entrepreneurship, Mexico. Methodology: quantitative-descriptive study with convenience non-probabilistic sampling. Results: 212 businesswomen participated. The entrepreneurship motivation was identified: obtaining income through their own business, and in small extent to achieve economic security in the long term. Limitations: being a non-probabilistic study, the results apply only to the participants. It is needed to deepen and analyze other variables to obtain more detailed findings. Value: the research contributes to the analysis of women's participation in the local economy and it could be replicated to identify motivation in other contexts. Conclusions: the entrepreneurship motivation can contribute to develop efforts to promote women's participation and favor the progress and permanence of their businesses.
