Resumen

RODRIGUEZ-GAMEZ, Liz Ileana  y  CABRERA-PEREYRA, José Antonio. Municipal convergence in Mexico with spatial econometric models (1999-2014). EconoQuantum [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.1, pp.7-32. ISSN 2007-9869.  https://doi.org/10.18381/eq.v16i1.7158.

Regularly the convergence studies in Mexico do not take into account the spatial dependence among neighboring locations and just few of them test the hypothesis at municipal level. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to test whether or not convergence (absolute and conditional) has occurred across Mexican municipalities over the 1999-2014 period and assess if geographical contiguity influences this process. The evidence allows to conclude that the poor municipalities grew economically faster than the rich ones, particularly in the last five years of the study period, and the spatial dimension turned out to be an element whose importance was reduced with time; the above results anticipates a regionally more autonomous growth of economies in recent years.
