Resumen
CARRILLO VALLES, Rodrigo; LOPEZ RODRIGUEZ, Patricia y SOLOAGA, Isidro. Poverty dynamics in Mexico, 2008-2018. EconoQuantum [online]. 2020, vol.17, n.2, pp.7-32. Epub 18-Nov-2020. ISSN 2007-9869. https://doi.org/10.18381/eq.v17i2.7140.
Objetive
To study poverty dynamics in Mexico with a broader temporality than in current literature.
Methodology
Pseudopanel methodology of Dang and Lanjouw (2013) with household income and expenditure surveys data.
Limitations
The methodology defines poverty as a unidimensional phenomenon.
Originality
This paper is an effort to study poverty dynamics with official measures, without the need of panel data.
Conclusions
It is found nearly half of population was in income poverty. Furthermore, it is identified that most affected households are those with lack of access to basic services in housing, lack of access to health services, educational backwardness, or those which have been in poverty during four or more years. This calls for the need for public policies aimed to reduce a structural problem.
