Resumen

LARIOS FERRER, José Leonel; HELU JIMENEZ, Alejandro Montúfar  y  REYES GARCIA, Juan Carlos. Analysis of the decision-making power of the main Economic Interest Groups (GIEs) within the Mexican gasoline and diesel market with information up to October 2021. EconoQuantum [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.1, pp.101-126.  Epub 09-Jun-2023. ISSN 2007-9869.  https://doi.org/10.18381/eq.v20i1.7266.

Objective:

Analyze the decision-making power of the main Economic Interest Groups (GIEs) within the Mexican gasoline and diesel market as of October 2021.

Methodology:

Taking into account 20 main GIEs, game theory and simulations are applied in Scilab to determine the elements of the game generated in said market.

Results:

There is a great number and diversity of ways that GIEs have to be part of a dominant group in said market, where small groups can have relevance. In addition, it is found that the stability of the alliances depends on its solidity and its initial conditions.

Limitations:

Only the 20 main GIEs of the Mexican gasoline and diesel market are analyzed.

Originality and value:

No work was found in the literature that applied game theory to analyze these types of markets. The importance of doing this type of study lies in knowing the possible scenarios where a coalition of GIEs may have partial control of the market for these oil products.

Conclusions:

This type of study can contribute to decision-making by companies within said market and by the government, in its role as regulatory agent.
