ROSAS SALAS, Sergio. A closed cloister in liberal mexico: the establishment of the Convent of Capuchinas de Zamora, 1886-1914. Tzintzun. Rev. estud. históricos [online]. 2018, n.68, pp.137-168. Epub 18-Mar-2020. ISSN 2007-963X.
The article analyzes the mechanisms that allowed the establishment of the Convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Capuchins from Zamora, Michoacán, between 1886 and 1914. It is argued that its foundation was possible by combining three elements: the initiative and the vocation of the nuns; episcopal and clerical support to the foundation; and the sponsorship and support of the local Catholic elite. It is shown that in the framework of anti-clerical legislation, the nuns expressed the relevance of the closing life in liberal Mexico while claiming their right to exercise the faith based on their individual freedom.
