FIGUEROA-LOPEZ, Pedro et al. Ónavas F2009, bread wheat cultivar for northwest Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.1, pp.175-179. ISSN 2007-0934.
The Ónavas F2009 commercial variety was developed in the Norman E. Borlaug Experiment Station, in a collaborative project between CIMMYT and INIFAP for the producing areas of the States of Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California Sur and Baja California in Mexico. Its pedigree is KAMBARA1*2/BRAMBLING, and its past selection CGSS01B00069T-099Y-099M-099M-099Y-099M-20Y-0B. Ónavas F2009 has the record TRI-121-100910 of the National Catalogue of Plant Varieties. This variety is of spring growth habit and resistant to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina), with an experimental average grain yield of 6 012 t ha-1 with three irrigations in four planting dates. In plots with cooperating farmers in southern Sonora, Ónavas F2009 averaged 6816 t ha-1 in the agricultural cycles 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, thus representing a new option for the farmers for bread wheat in the northwest of the country.
