SANTOS BENITEZ, Andrea Rosario; HERNANDEZ RAMIREZ, Ana Lilia; LAVARIEGA, Mario César y GOMEZ-UGALDE, Rosa María. Bird diversity in cultivars of Santa María Yahuiche, highland from Oaxaca, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.spe6, pp.1241-1250. ISSN 2007-0934.
In order to contribute to the knowledge of the bird diversity from the Oriental highland, was analyzed the diversity of birds in agricultural areas of Santa María Yahuiche, Oaxaca. The data was obtained with a field work of 1 440 m/network/hour and 86 hours of observation in intensive search, over 14 days of collection distributed in 2012. It was obtained a total of 187 visual records and 52 captured with mist nets. Bird species richness of agricultural lands from Santa Maria Yahuiche is represented by 52 species belonging to 19 families and 6 orders; however there are still species to be recorded. Permanent resident birds were the most abundant. The Shannon-Wiener index was H'= 3.54 nats with an equity value of species J'= 0.89. The bird diversity from Santa María Yahuiche is a priority for conservation, due to the presence of endemic species (9) and under some category of endangerment (1) according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, associated with agricultural activities.
