INIGUEZ-COVARRUBIAS, Mauro; OJEDA-BUSTAMANTE, Waldo; DIAZ-DELGADO, Carlos  y  SIFUENTES-IBARRA, Ernesto. Analysis of four variables associated with rainy seasonal in maize cultivation. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.1, pp.101-114. ISSN 2007-0934.

Characterize and understand the variables: onset, duration, termination of the rainy season and the amount of precipitation late clarify its magnitude and relate to agriculture under rainfed conditions, is and has been a major concern for farmers and students of the agricultural sciences. In the north central region of Mexico this problem is accentuated by the high variability of the rainy season and heavy reliance on climate-fed agriculture. The methodology outlined four variables recreates weather of the rainy season, analyzed by recognized methods, and based on a probabilistic analysis associated with agriculture rainfed maize. The study was conducted for the region located in the southern state of Zacatecas, Mexico, on Tlaltenango weather station. It was considered the beginning of the rainy season on June 6 and ending September 25, duration of 110 days, the relationship of variables indicates a potentially suitable site for maize with that duration , whose water requirements methodology determined degree days development is 372 mm for the whole cycle, whose gross depth of477 mm and an effective precipitation 78% guaranteed with a 78.5% probability of occurrence, the area has at least 80 days embedded in the rainy season with probability 98%. We conclude that for practical purposes, an average quarter in five years will guarantee the amount of rain; we recommend the use of this methodology as a tool in decision making for technicians and farmers from the region.

Palabras llave : seasonal agriculture; rainy season; rain parameters.
