Resumen

ZAMUDIO-GONZALEZ, Benjamín et al. Maize hybrids and varieties for seed production in planting double rows. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.7, pp.1491-1505. ISSN 2007-0934.

The objective was to determine the yield level of maize hybrids and varieties released for Valles Altos in planting double rows compared to planting single row, establishing as hypothesis that planting double row favors higher yield. The experiment was set at "end of irrigation" in Temascalcingo, State of Mexico, in 2011. Single row planting was at 0.80 m. Double row separated at 0.25 m. A randomized complete block design with two factors arrangement was used, where factor A were eleven maize materials, and factor B the two planting arrangements. Variables measured were: plants and harvested cobs, cob weight, 100 grain weight, cob length and diameter, number of rows and number of kernels per row. Expecting to obtain better yields with planting double row arrangement did not met for new improved maize genotypes bred for soil conditions, climate and management from Valles Altos in the State of Mexico. Instead hybrid AS-722 obtained a higher grain yield 8.67 (t ha-1) under single row compared to double row (5.99 t ha-1), with a decrease in yield of 2.68 t ha-1.
