Resumen

RAMOS-UMANA, Leonardo. On the Reformation of Character in Aristotle’s Work. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.18, pp.11-42.  Epub 10-Nov-2023. ISSN 2395-8936.  https://doi.org/10.23924/oi.v10n18a2019.pp25p.333.

Considering the question of the reformation of character in Aristotelian ethics, the purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to defend that for the Stagirite it is impossible to reform on its own initiative and by voluntary actions, i.e., it can not be the case that an agent with an established moral character (virtuous or vicious) wants or can perform the necessary actions to achieve the contrary character; second, to explain why character reformation is only possible thanks to the interference of another agent, and what kind of actions are those that make up such process.

Palabras llave : Aristotle; character; coercion; determinism; Moral Pedagogy.
