Resumen

SABIDO SANCHEZ JUAREZ, Cecilia. Reflections on the Principle of Pleasure in Action as an Auxiliary for the Formation of Virtues in Aristotelian Ethics. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.18, pp.43-73.  Epub 10-Nov-2023. ISSN 2395-8936.  https://doi.org/10.23924/oi.v10n18a2019.pp43-73.332.

In this comment to the article “About Reformation of Character in Aristotle’s Work” by Leonardo Ramos-Umaña, I remark certain considerations regarding his position on the practical impossibility of the reformation of character «by the agent’s own initiative». I consider Aristotle’s theory of Will as the origin of the action and its formative quality. I also comment on the social participation in the attainment of virtues. Finally, I study how Aristotle considers the natural human inclination towards pleasure as suitable to guide the acquirement of virtue in three specific cases: children’s games, friendship and theatre.
