XOLOCOTZI YÁÑEZ, Ángel. The Impact of the Problem of Representation (Vorstellung) on the Beginning of the Husserlian Phenomenology. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.18, pp.159-184. Epub 10-Nov-2023. ISSN 2395-8936. https://doi.org/10.23924/oi.v10n18a2019.pp25p.324.
The irruption of phenomenology at the beginning of the 20th century with Husserl’s Logical Investigations is fully understood from the problems discussed in the last decade of the 19th century, especially in the Franz Brentano’s School. The thesis that all representation corresponds to an object, on the part of Brentano, contrasts with the previously stated by Bolzano on the representations without object. The Husserlian treatises around 1894, in particular the text on «intentional objects», are inserted in this discussion that will lead to central approaches around the conformation of phenomenology. The present article shows a review of determining elements in the modern representation, as well as Twardowski’s position, to later differentiate it in the discussion of the Bolzano-Brentano paradox and finally, to indicate the Husserlian proposal.
