The empathic act, as it is understood and developed by Edith Stein in her phenomenological works, sustains that the psychophysical individual is constituted from the empathic act, from where it is sustained that identity is only constituted from alterity. This foundation allows us to understand why the ideal of the autonomous man of the contemporary society has led us to a disembodied and self-enclosed man, who has progressively destroyed himself, others and their living environment. For this reason, we propose that society must be built from the community as a way to generate peace in our contemporary culture.
