LEITE, Carlinda y SOUSA, Walter Lopes-de. Challenges of two higher education institutions in the Amazon facing the pandemic of Covid-19. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.37, pp.135-154. Epub 01-Ago-2022. ISSN 2007-2872. https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.20072872e.2022.37.1308.
The article presents the situations of two public universities in a rural city in the Brazilian Amazon area in dealing with the SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19) pandemic and the effects it had on their operation. From the methodological point of view, the study made use of the to Brazilian legislation published during the pandemic period and of interviews with rectors and coordinators of these universities. These speeches, interpreted by content analysis, allowed us to identify how each institution found its way to deal with adversities from its own specific situation and features. It also allowed us to recognize the importance of alternative plans for the medium and long term, such as those defined by the European Union, which aim to make people digitally literate so that the use of digital technologies can become part of everyone’s personal and educational life, and not only be used as an emergency palliative, as it happened in Brazil when they were needed during this pandemic.
