The present work provides information about bats diversity in the lower basin of Rio Verde, in Oaxaca State, Mexico. The sampling was performed from August 2009 to July 2010 in four sites of the study area. We caught 810 individuals, from 17 species arranged in 13 genera and 4 families, with an important representation of the family Phyllostomidae. The fitting of asymptotic cumulative species model showed that in one sampling site asymptote is reached while in the restant sampling sites there are still some species that remain to be recorded. The rank-abundance curves show the genus Artibeus members as the most abundant and dominant in the sampling sites except El Corral. We consider important the need of generate more studies on structure, population dynamics and community ecology to understand clearly the importance of this group in the region.
