CARRILLO VALDEZ, Lindsay; ESCAMILLA GUTIERREZ, María Luisa  y  GONZALEZ BAENA, Viviana. Factors Associated with Psychological Responses to COVID-19 in a Mexican Sample. Acta de investigación psicol [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.1, pp.1-15.  Epub 14-Ene-2022. ISSN 2007-4719.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fpsi.20074719e.2021.1.369.

The identification of variables related to prevention behaviors and initial emotional responses that favor the management of the COVID-19 crisis is a pending issue in psychological Mexican research. In order to identify factors associated with psychological responses to the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic in a sample of Mexican adults, an exploratory-descriptive cross-sectional study was designed and an online survey was applied. The sample was non-probabilistic and consisted of 1,088 Mexicans. The factors: behavioral responses, age, income, and schooling were associated with knowledge, attitudes, and perceived practices about the pandemic (R = .586). The preventive behavioral responses were associated with perceived prevention attitudes and practices, income, schooling, place of residence, days of social distancing, and sex (R = .622). The variables: Previous diagnosis of chronic diseases, days of social distancing, behavioral responses, and income were associated with anxiety (R = .239). To recognize factors associated with the initial responses to the health crisis makes it possible to detect vulnerable populations and formulate effective and timely interventions that contribute to controlling the pandemic and mitigate the emotional effects that accompany its course.
