VEGA VAZQUEZ, Margarita; NAVARRO CONTRERAS, Gabriela  y  PADROS BLAZQUEZ, Ferrán. Psychometric Study of the Suicide Risk Screening Scale (ECRS) for the Child Population of Michoacán, Mexico. Acta de investigación psicol [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.1, pp.62-72.  Epub 14-Ene-2022. ISSN 2007-4719.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fpsi.20074719e.2021.1.374.

Owing to the need for a screening scale to identify children at risk of suicide (ECRS), the objective of the present study was to adapt items mainly from the BRFL-A inventory of Osman et al. (1996) to the child population of Michoacán (Mexico). Prior to the evaluation of the psychometric characteristics, the items were translated into Spanish, using the translation-re-translation method, modifications were made in some items and in the response options to adapt them to both the culture and the level of understanding in children from elementary school. 175 children from 8 to 12 years of age (M = 9.69; SD = 1.14) participated, of which 57.7% were female participants. The internal consistency of the instrument was studied using Cronbach's Alpha, obtaining α = .872 for the entire scale, and the values of the factors ranged from α = .702 to α = .883. The factorial analysis of principal components with orthogonal (varimax) rotation, yielded a solution of four factors that explain 68.36% of variance. This version shows to be linguistically and psychometrically appropriate to evaluate the reasons for living in children from Michoacán (Mexico). The instrument can be used as a screening tool to detect children at risk of suicide and provide them with timely treatment.
