The objective of this article is to identify the repertoire of signs (tangible and intangible goods) associated with certain meanings that elucidated the process of constructing the idea of cultural heritage in Queretaro from the final years of the regime of Porfirio Diaz to the decade of the 1940s. To provide a proper interpretation of this process, the authors take into account the role played by the increase in tourism, national and local public policies, efforts to create a state museum, and the publication of texts related to monuments and traditions in Queretaro.
