MEDINA MIRANDA, Héctor. The Bovine Irruption. Cattle Breeding in the Transformation of Space and the Territorial Dispossession of the Wixaritari Towns. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2024, n.27, pp.215-253. Epub 03-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2007-4964. https://doi.org/10.55555/is.27.557.
The article presents the description of a long process of territorial plunder in western Mexico, which has made cattle its main instrument. It is a phenomenon in which the history of animals runs alongside that of humans and in which the confinement policies of indigenous societies result in the territorial contraction of towns. This paper analyzes the case of the Wixaritari community of Tateikie, also known as San Andrés Cohamiata, which has suffered one of the largest territorial dispossessions in the region. The analysis focuses on these processes that have taken place between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries.
