Resumen

GATICA ARREOLA, Leonardo Alberto  y  MURRIETA CUMMINGS, Patricia. Conditions of Adolescent Work in Jalisco. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2024, n.27, pp.351-389.  Epub 03-Mayo-2024. ISSN 2007-4964.  https://doi.org/10.55555/is.27.577.

In this paper, an analysis is conducted on the adolescent population aged 15 to 17 years who work in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. The two main factors considered as negative impacts of adolescent work are analyzed: the impact on school dropout and employment under risky conditions. Using the ENTI 2019 (National Survey of Child Labour) we describe and analyze the employment rates in this population group, considering differences in gender, age, and size of the locality in which they reside, and their relationship and effect on school attendance and the probability of working under risky conditions. Most of the findings are consistent with the existing empirical literature, but it is worth noting that in this case the probabilities of working under risky conditions and dropping out of school do not necessarily have a monotonic relationship with age, and present differences in their trends depending on the size of the locality in which the adolescents reside.
