Renal failure (RI) is a public health problem in developed countries. The prevalence of people undergoing renal replacement therapy increases every year with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus being the main causes. The objective of this work was to identify the triggers of peritonitis in patients with chronic renal failure treated with peritoneal dialysis. The research has a quantitative, descriptive approach using an exploratory cross-sectional study. The sample was made up of 79 patients suffering from Chronic Renal Insufficiency who seek medical attention at a public health institution. A 12-question questionnaire was applied to inquire about the risk factors to which the patients are exposed.

Palabras llave : Renal failure; End-stage renal disease (ESRD); peritonitis; public health.
