This paper discusses the social representations that underlie the levels of burnout and engagement. The purposive sample consisted of administrative employees from a government agency (n = 147). The methodology applied is mixed. The quantitative instance was based on the results of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) and the Utrech Work Engagement Scale (UWES) in Argentina. In this paper the descriptive results are presented and by conglomerates of k-means, an analysis that allowed the identification of the coexistence of two different psychosocial profiles in the same work environment. In the qualitative instance, the social representations about public employment and personal expectations in state work that each of the clusters are compared. Methodological triangulation techniques were used to understand the quantitative results in the light of qualitative readings. The results are inputs for the generation of human resources management strategies aimed at the recovery of meaning and positive assessment of public employment.
