RIIIT. Rev. int. investig. innov. tecnol. [online]. 2019, vol.7, n.41, pp.40-61. Epub 05-Feb-2021. ISSN 2007-9753.
Currently, ecosystems are exposed to metal pollutants from human development activities, whose protected areas are not isolated from this problem. The soils can act as collectors and facilitate the release of metals to organisms that have contact on it, and it can generate biomagnification problems on the trophic chain. Given this situation, the present study evaluates heavy metal contamination in soils of the Mangrove Cayapas Mataje Ecological Mangrove Reserve (REMACAM) through the application of pollution indices, based on analyzed soil concentrations of the reserve and background concentration values. The indices applied were: Igeo, EF and PLI. It was determined that the element with the highest contamination values is Cadmium (Cd). The study concludes by highlighting the need to adopt substantial changes in agricultural uses and practices, and to reform legal regulations and management programs in order to provide, in an integrated and inclusive manner, the basic guidelines for conservation action Natural and cultural heritage, the provision of ecosystem and cultural services that contribute to the sustainability of the area, the good living of its local populations and strengthen the management of the protected area.
